An ancient Greek word meaning “surprise,” “wonder,” or “finding something mysterious,” considered the origin of philosophy and intellectual inquiry. As Plato and Aristotle said “philosophy begins in wonder,” it refers to sensitivity that marvels at small everyday events or the mystery of existence and questions them.
