Poiesis is a Greek concept meaning “bringing into being” or “making.” Plato described it as “the cause of a transition from nonbeing to being,” and Aristotle defined it as “purposeful production.” It is a creative, essential process referring to art, technology, or the self-producing aspects of life (autopoiesis).
