A hypothetical artificial structure in the form of an enormous spherical shell enclosing a star, conceived in 1960 by American physicist Dyson. He proposed that an advanced civilization would construct it to use all the energy emitted by the star. It often appears in science-fiction novels as a setting for a future Earth or fictional world.
