The War of the Worlds is a radio program broadcast in the United States in 1938, in which actor Orson Welles adapted and read H. G. Wells's science-fiction novel The War of the Worlds. The theory that listeners believed an invasion by Martians was real and panicked1 is now rejected as an unfounded urban legend.
