Born in Melbourne in 1944. A pioneer in media art who has conducted numerous experiments with artistic forms using new media since the late 1960s. Through active collaboration with engineers and programmers, he has produced many works encompassing new meanings and perspectives on technology, from performance, sculpture, and video to interactive expression involving audiences. In 2015, with support from Shanghai's Chronus Art Center, he released the archive website “Jeffrey Shaw Compendium 1966 - 2015,” encompassing half a century of works, writings, and criticism. From 1991-2009, he was the first director of the Institute for Visual Media at ZKM, a public media art center in Karlsruhe, Germany. He currently serves as dean of the School of Creative Media at City University of Hong Kong.
